Chace-Randall Gallery proudly presents Portraits, East Enders by Keith Cardwell, London, and Chairs by Stacy Gibboni, Venice, Italy, August 5 – September 18. The exhibition is comprised of photographs by Cardwell and paintings in oil by Gibboni. A Reception for the Artists is Saturday, August 6, 5 – 7 p.m.

Cardwell’s East Enders series is the product of a five year project begun in London, 1991.  “The East End had been through a long period of bombing during the war. The old community had been survived it. They were hard core,” says Cardwell, adding that when he first started shooting on Bacon Street, London, the residents thought he was trying to sell his camera. The portraits in this series are intimate and edgy. Snuck into the exhibition are also two wonderful portraits from his more recent Amish series.

When Chace-Randall Gallery owner/director Zoe Randall met Stacy Gibboni, Gibboni was a well-respected landscape painter in Savannah, GA, a writing assignment of Randall’s, then working as an art critic and arts feature writer. Gibboni’s Chairs only a handful of paintings then, however, were the works that drew Randall into Gibboni’s world of painting. Gibboni offered that her Chair portraits were only for a special few, a favorite aunt, a dear friend, herself. In the late 1990’s, Randall became part of that special few. In 2010, she invited Stacy Gibboni to exhibit her Chair Portraits at Chace-Randall, this exhibit the product of over a year’s work.

Keith Cardwell has exhibited worldwide, including the National Portrait Gallery of London; Museum of London; Fototeca de Cuba, Museum of Photography, Havana; Telfair Museum and Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum, Savannah, GA. He is collected by the aforementioned museums, as well as Naples Museum of Art, FL; Burt Glinn, Magnum Photographer of long standing, NYC; and the Getty Museum, Los Angeles. Again, Randall began collecting Cardwell’s work in Savannah in the late 1990’s, a period all three knew each other, dined together, and respected one another’s work. Cardwell has been exhibiting at Chace-Randall since the gallery opened in 2005.

Stacy Gibboni holds an M.F.A. in painting from New York University. Her exhibition credits include Spazio Bevacqua Panigai, Treviso, Italy; the Raphael Essebag Gallery, Montreal, Canada; Gallery SPACE, Savannah, GA; among others. Most recently her Junkyard Essays, text, photography, and painting, exhibited concurrently at Gallery at Old Stone, Cleveland, OH, and Venice Jazz Club, a collateral exhibit in conjunction with the 54th Biennale, Venice, Italy.  Chace-Randall Gallery is proud to add her to the gallery’s stellar troupe of permanent exhibiting artists.
